Noiler

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN DUAL-PURPOSE BREEDS IN NIGERIA

(A)NOILER

Noiler is a product of research carried out by Amo farm researchers. It is a dual-purpose breed(for egg and meat). Noiler matures faster(usually 4 months) than our local breeds and weighs 3kg at maturity. Noiler is a hybrid of broiler and cockerel. One special benefit of Noiler over others is that it contains more lean meat (low-fat content) which is relevant to human health.

Kuroiler

(B)KUROILER

Kuroiler originated from Kegg farms in India. It is a product of a cross between white leghorn(male broiler) and Rhode Island red(exotic pullet). It is also considered to be a dual-purpose breed. Kuroiler is currently available at Grinphield Hatchery in Nigeria. Research findings showed that Kuroilers lay bigger and higher quantities of eggs when compared with noiler. Kuroiler at maturity weighs up to 4kg at 5 months.

Sasso

(C)SASSO

Sasso was first discovered by Serge Perrault in France. It is currently available for sale at Supreme Hatchery in Nigeria. According to research carried out in Tanzania, the result showed that Sasso was more efficient at converting feed to live body weight when compared with Kuroiler just that Kuroiler showed higher disease resistance. Sasso has the fastest growth and reaches market weight in 20 weeks under improved management conditions. This means that the farmer can have up to 4-5 cycles in a year. They can survive on a plant-based diet consisting of up to 75% cereals and 25% plant protein. Sasso starts laying eggs at 5 months and can lay 240 eggs per year. Sasso is currently not available in Nigeria.

Brahma

(D) BRAHMA

The Brahma chicken breed is a dual-purpose breed, suitable for both meat and egg production. Originating in the United States, it is the second-largest chicken breed, growing up to 6kg in weight. Brahma chickens thrive in free-range environments and require a diet rich in protein, with at least 16% crude protein. Hens begin laying jumbo-sized eggs at around 6 months, producing up to 5 eggs per week. While they have a strong broodiness instinct, they are not known for their mothering abilities. Despite their large size, Brahma chickens are renowned for their docile, gentle, and calm nature. This breed is available for purchase in Nigeria and can be delivered to you anywhere nationwide.

Therefore, If you have plans to start a poultry farm with less capital, consider any of these dual-purpose breeds.
